I will show the sketch of theme in my flash assignment.
I choose sport to make theme for the flash, because I like sport.
I used Illustrator to draw these balls. It's so interesting.

I know this is just a draft sketch, but let me chip in some thoughts.
It is cool that you plan to make sports as the theme of your portfolio, but other than the buttons being different balls, the rest of the elements (background etc) does not tie in closely with the same theme.
One example of extending the idea to have a stronger theme, is making the interface look like a scene in a basketball court. When the user clicks onto a link, a basketball shoots into the hoop and there is sound effects of crowd cheering. Hence in this case, the background, the buttons, the sound effects ties into the same theme.
I hope you get what I mean.
